Resident organist

Maurice Clement, resident organist at the Philharmonie since 2007 and one of the most innovative organists in Luxembourg, draws astonishing tone colours from his extraordinary instrument.

 

Maurice Clement, born in 1972, began his music studies at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg in Luxembourg, his native city, where he took three First Prizes, for organ, for piano and for chamber music.

He continued his studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium, where under the direction of Jean Ferrard he obtained a First Prize for organ, and First Prizes for history of music and for music theory.

He pursued advanced studies with Jean Boyer at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon, France, where he obtained the Diplôme National d'Etudes Supérieures Musicales. In completion of his studies, he worked with Lorenzo Ghielmi and Michael Radulescu, among others.

He is titular organist of the two organs of the City of Diekirch and teaches organ and improvisation in the Conservatoire du Nord in Luxembourg.

In 1997, playing on historic instruments of Freiberg, Saxony, Maurice Clement took Second Prize at the Gottfried Silbermann International Competition dedicated to the work of J.S. Bach.

He has given organ recitals at several international music festivals and on famous organs in Paris, Lyon, Zürich, Muri, Prague, Bruxelles, Liège, Gent, Innsbruck, Vienna, Leipzig, Munich, Freiberg, Halle, Copenhague, Milano...

He has released a CD and a DVD audio with works of J.S. and C.P.E. Bach and several CDs with improvised music.
