Dear Music Lovers,
It is with enthusiasm, confidence and delight that we welcome the inauguration of the first season of the national concert hall, Salle de Concerts Grande-Duchesse Joséphine- Charlotte. The opening of the Philharmonie reflects the government’s desire to provide Luxembourg with a concert hall worthy of this country’s status in Europe and the wider international community. We firmly believe that this building with its eloquent beauty, its varied and outstanding design, will play an important role in the cultural life of Luxembourg and the Greater Region. With a programme uniting classical music with jazz, ethnic music with choral works, and, above all, a profusion of workshops especially designed for a young audience, the Philharmonie will undoubtedly fulfil its role as a focal point for established concert-goers while at the same time attracting new audiences. Linking an established local music scene with international artists from far and wide in order to stimulate artistic creation and offer new perspectives to a varied audience is only one of the challenges facing the Philharmonie. We give it our unreserved, wholehearted support and wish the Philharmonie all the success it so richly deserves.
