In ein gleichermaßen historisches und fiktives Frankreich des 17. Jahrhunderts führt der Streifen Die Eiserne Maske und lässt Douglas Fairbanks einen Leinwandmythos begründen. Die Hollywood-Legende steht 1929 für das Entführungs- und Verwechslungsdrama nämlich bereits zum zweiten Mal als D’Artagnan vor der Kamera.
