«iPhil»

Special events for young people aged 14 to 18

«iPhil» is a series of concerts linked to workshops which are aimed at young people aged between 14 and 18. The subscription cycle for the 2017/18 season offers a wide variety of ways to connect with music with pre-concert workshops focusing on the themes involved. «iPhil» also offers flamenco dancing and cartoon workshops, conver-sations with artists and pre-concert talk to enable young people to get actively involved with the events.

How does an opera come into being? What is a libretto? What are the options for set-ting a text to music? What is it about opera that makes it such a popular genre? How has opera developed from its beginnings through to the 21st century? «Loving Opera!»will give answers to these and many other questions besides. This first «iPhil» event of the season looks at opera with particular reference to Leoš Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.

Workshop with Marina Herber

Illustrator Marina Herber leads an hour-long workshop about the moving image based on the French animated film Les Triplettes de Belleville. Both cartoon and film techniques will be explained and tried out under the expert guidance of this experien-ced illustrator. A thrilling experience!

Rhythm & Dance with Jil Kelhetter & Kader Fahem

À l’occasion du concert du légendaire guitariste flamenco Tomatito, la danseuse luxem-bourgeoise Jil Kelhetter propose un Workshop. Aux côtés d’un guitariste, la danseuse explique les fondamentaux et la tradition du flamenco. Le Workshop offre aussi la pos-sibilité d’expérimenter des enchaînements chorégraphiques sur de la musique live.

Discussion with Francesco Tristano

The luxembourgish pianist Francesco Tristano has found a way to re-imagine Bach. He has developed a video installation where a utopian city is gradually constructed while he performs Bach‘s Goldberg Variations. For this «iPhil» event, Francesco Tristano will present his vision and discuss the artistic concept.

Discussion with Gustavo Gimeno

Gustavo Gimeno, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra’s chief conductor, gives insight into his work as Music Director during an artist’s talk. He will also briefly present the concert programme and his relationship to the American composers Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber and George Gershwin. This format will provide plenty of scope for questions from the «iPhil» audience!
