Olivier Coupé began learning the viola at the Conservatoire National de Région in Nantes, where he was taught by his father, at the age of five. He went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Lyons under Tasso Adamopoulos. Thanks to a succession of scholarships, he was able to go on to further studies under Karen Tuttle at the Juilliard School (New York) and under Carol Rodland and Kim Kashkashian at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Berlin). He has taken part in the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), where he has followed master classes given by Roberto Diaz and Paul Neubauer. He is interested in somatic education and gained a university degree in Somatic Psychopedagogy. He joined the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg in 2001.
