Written by Hector Berlioz at the request of Niccolò Paganini, Harold en Italie appears like a symphony with the viola taking centre stage, as the echo of the hero tortured by loneliness. When this work leads Antoine Tamestit to trails through the Abruzzi on Jan. 31, it will be in the company of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under Paavo Järvi’s baton. The orchestra then makes its way to Central Europe with Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet Op. 25 and its Rondo à la tzigane. The work will be performed in Arnold Schoenberg’s orchestration. The concert is preceded by an Artist Talk in French at the Salle de Musique de Chambre at 7:15 pm.
