In 1923, Ewald André Dupont presented to the world a film recounting the story of a Rabbi’s son who leaves his Galician shtetl against his father’s wishes, apparently breaking with all tradition in order to become a celebrated actor in Vienna. Long forgotten, the restored version of Das alte Gesetz became a great success at the 2018 Berlinale, not least because of the newly-composed film score by Philippe Schoeller. The festival rainy days brings this important document of Jewish film-making to Luxembourg on 14.11., when the Ensemble Recherche under Nacho de Paz performs it at a Ciné-Concert.
