Rhinoceroses wearing tutus, crafty centaurs, a mouse pursued by brooms gone wild, and a horrifying monster – all these figures populate the universe of the film Fantasia. It was first released in 1940, with a sequel in 1999. Mythology, literature and folk culture intermingle here, and everything is underpinned with music from immortal scores of the symphonic repertoire. Together with Ernst van Tiel, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg brings the soundtrack to life. Sounds merge with images that have influenced generations of cineastes. The film will be shown in its full length on Dec. 16, while a family-friendly short version will be screened in the matinee on Dec. 17.
