Maurice Ravel:
Ma mère l'Oye (Mutter Gans).
François Dompierre:
Fantaisie pour piano-fantôme et orchestre
For the two children of friends, Ravel composed five piano pieces for four hands. The suite was inspired by three French collections of fairy tales. Later Ravel reworked these pieces into an orchestral version presented by Jean-François Zygel. The programme is complemented by the Fantaisie pour piano-fantôme et orchestre, by the Franco-Canadian composer François Dompierre. The orchestra part will be performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg under David Niemann from written parts; the solo part, on the other hand, will be completely improvised by Jean-François Zygel. On May 11, Ravel’s fairy tale music can be heard from another perspective, based on an idea by Lionel Ménard.
