One of the most popular musical instruments of all, as a solo instrument the flute is still relatively underrepresented in classical concert repertoire. The sensuous and colourful Flute Concerto by Jacques Ibert is one of the highlights composers have gifted to flutists. Performing it with the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg is Emmanuel Pahud, celebrated for his virtuosity, in a programme that also combines spirituality with fairy-tale enchantment, Maurice Ravel and Olivier Messiaen. Musical settings of fairy-tales are also the subject of a pre-concert talk in French given by Charlotte Brouard-Tartarin at the Salle de Musique de Chambre at 7:15 pm.
