The Norwegian saxophone player Jan Garbarek performs at the Philharmonie for the first time. He is one of those musicians who immediately stand out from the crowd thanks to his unmistakable tone; he accomplishes this by a clear emphasis on melodic lines, a brilliant sound and an emotionality which is grounded in the experience of silence. Garbarek has worked with many great names of jazz; in the 1970s, for example, he was a member of Keith Jarrett’s quartet. World music is another area of expertise for him, and thus his performance in Luxembourg is shared with the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu. Their joint performance on April 27 is part of an artistic partnership guided by the spirit of openness.
