Gustav Mahler: Symphonie N° 8 «Symphonie der Tausend» / «Symphonie des Mille»

«Try to imagine the whole universe beginning to ring and resound», Gustav Mahler wrote to conductor Willem Mengelberg in 1906 upon completion of his Eighth Symphony. This work, which can be considered monumental in every sense and earned the epithet «Symphony of a Thousand» because of the huge orchestra, numbers of soloists and choruses required, will be made to ring and resound by the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. It will be led by Daniel Harding, who is closely associated with the GMJO and concludes his Philharmonie residency with this performance. The concert is preceded by an introductory talk in German by Rainer Peters at the Salle de Musique de Chambre at 6:15 pm.
