Johann Sebastian Bach: Matthäuspassion BWV 244

Eastertide is passion time. Ever since Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s powerfully effective rediscovery, Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion represents quintessential passion music. On March 23 at the Grand Auditorium of the Philharmonie, Philippe Herreweghe, an eminent Bach specialist, will continue an almost 200-year performance tradition. Along with his Collegium Vocale Gent and outstanding soloists, he will present a rendition of this dramatic yet contemplative setting of Christ’s passion which promises to be as knowledgeable as it is lively.
