With two concerts dedicated to Franz Schubert’s sonatas in November 2017 and January 2018, Mitsuko Uchida already enchanted the Luxembourg audience. Now she returns with three further sonatas, once again proving her profound knowledge of the oeuvre of the romantic composer who died tragically early. The three compositions represent different stages in Schubert’s output: the Sonata in A-minor D 537 is the carefree work of a twenty-year-old; the unfinished Sonata in C-major D 840, on the other hand, was billed as Schubert’s last sonata when it was published in 1861. That honour, however, is due to the Sonata in B-flat-major D 960, which truly was Schubert’s final contribution to the genre.
