Johann Sebastian Bach: Matthäuspassion BWV 244
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Matthäuspassion is a milestone of music history and a profoundly moving confession of faith. Philippe Herreweghe has recorded the monumental work twice during his lifetime and continues to further refine his interpretation, which always takes the sung word as its reference, with the Collegium Vocale Gent, which Herreweghe founded more than 50 years ago. Before the concert, the internationally renowned Bach scholar from Leipzig Michael Maul gives a lecture in German at the Salle de Musique de Chambre at 6:15 pm, offering comprehensive insights into this unique setting of the passion and its historical context.
