The Whale is a Capital Fish

Flying fish and tuning forks – Copenhagen’s Scenatet has declared playfulness a musician’s virtue. Open to any eccentric idea a composer might have, it stages its concerts as visual-theatrical performances in which loudspeakers dance ballet. The British vocalist Phil Minton is another artist who ventures far from familiar terrain. When he started vocal experiments with freely improvised music in the 1970s, he was treading uncharted paths. Among his closest musical partners are the no less innovative musicians John Butcher, Roger Turner and Veryan Weston, who join him for their debut at the Philharmonie.
