Richard Wagner: Siegfried (version concert)

It is one of the core pieces of Richard Wagner’s operatic magnum opus Der Ring des Nibelungen – the trailblazer of a new concept of musical theatre which still manages to polarize, more than a century after its premiere. Siegfried, however, is even more than that – it stands testament to the subtlest mastery of orchestration. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle will demonstrate this in Luxembourg on Feb. 11, when a concert performance of the opera highlights the fact that the orchestra is actually one of the main protagonists of the work – alongside a team of outstanding vocalists, of course.
