Gustav Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde (arr. pour orchestre à cordes de Glen Cortese)

On June 1, Sir Simon Rattle, Magdalena Kožená, Andrew Staples and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe invite the audience to an evening mixing monumentality and intimacy. The concert features two 20th-century works often combined, Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen and Gustav Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. In the former, composed in 1945, the composer bid adieu to an epoch that had ended. The latter, performed here in an arrangement for string orchestra by Glenn Cortese, is a farewell to earthly existence and a vibrant ode to nature. At 7:15 pm, a pre-concert talk in German by Tatjana Mehner at the Salle de Musique de Chambre is dedicated to Strauss‘ Metamorphosen.
