Franz Schubert: Stabat Mater D 175
Franz Schubert: Symphonie N° 8 D 759 «Unvollendete» / «Inachevée»
Robert Schumann: Missa sacra c-moll (ut mineur) op. 147

Hardly any work has provided posterity with more riddles than Schubert’s Symphony No. 8. The composer chose the highly unusual key of B-flat minor and abandoned the work shortly after the beginning of the third movement. Less mysterious, but almost unknown is Schumann’s Missa sacra, composed contemporaneously with a Requiem during Schumann’s last years in Düsseldorf. With his chorus and orchestra named after the baroque architect Balthasar Neumann, Thomas Hengelbrock will perform these two pearls of the romantic repertoire in historically informed performance practice. A Stabat Mater composed by Schubert in the manner of Pergolesi, completes the programme. In an artist talk, the conductor will provide information on the programme at 7:30 pm on (in German).
