The association Les Amis de l’Orchestre Symphonique de RTL was founded in 1987, adopting the name Les Amis de l’Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg in 1996.
It was awarded the public utility status in 2016. The main activity of the association is to organise six «Concerts-apéritif» which traditionally take place on Sunday mornings at the Philharmonie. These concerts are exclusively performed by members of the Luxembourg Philharmonic who, in this way, have the opportunity to play in smaller ensembles and to introduce music lovers to a very special repertoire. Moreover, these concerts can also be organised, with the support of the association, in other suitable locations outside the Philharmonie. Thanks to the faithful support from all people and institutions involved, whether through sponsoring, patronage or donations, the association has been providing financial support for pedagogical workshops led by orchestra members in the country’s elementary schools since 2016. The association is also involved in funding the Luxembourg Philharmonic Academy (LPA). The tours organised by the association exclusively for its members, where participants get to accompany the orchestra on tour abroad, are highly popular. The association regularly commissions new works from local composers, which are performed by the Luxembourg Philharmonic’s chamber music ensembles as part of the «Concerts-apéritif».
You will find details on these «Concerts-apéritif» here.
If you become a member of the Frënn vun de Lëtzebuerger Philharmoniker, you will receive information about the Orchestra every month and you will be given the opportunity to take part in trips organised by the Frënn vun de Lëtzebuerger Philharmoniker concerts outside Luxembourg, to attend rehearsals open exclusively to members of the Amis and benefit from reduced ticket prices for the «Concerts-apéritif».
