The Joke, a quartet by Joseph Haydn,
and A Musical Joke by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, are two examples of classical pieces in which great composers set out to entertain the audience by treating the classical compositional tradition with humour. The second half of the concert deals with both humour and war, featuring Paul Hindemith’s parody of Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman, Leone Sinigaglia’s Romanze for horn, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s spectacular Second String Quartet.Organised by Ensemble d’arco
