Musical theatre

No sooner had its world premiere been performed in St. Petersburg on 18 December 1892 than Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker cast a spell on its audience. Like the smell of cookies, this music has been inextricably linked with Christmastime for generations of listeners. At the Philharmonie, the fairy-tale is staged by Caterina Cianfarini, to the sound of the version for two pianos.
