Part of the festival atlântico on -
Although strictly speaking, the Lusophone world consists of all of the states in which Portuguese is the language, in reality this vast community of over 200 million people around the world encompasses a wide variety of cultures. The identity of each one of these cultures has been shaped by rich exchanges and an eventful history, all of which has been reflected in their music. Combining past and present and alternating returning artists with newcomers, the 2025 edition of the festival atlântico is once again set to welcome the cream of the current music scene.

album

The long-unspoken stories of the British presence in Cape Verde

and the fight for liberation from the Portuguese yoke provide the theme for Port’Inglês, in which Carmen Souza explores her family roots. It is a short step from history proper to anecdotal history, from jazz to Creole music – and she takes that step with unbridled artistic freedom.
