«I know not if I’m laughing, I know not if I’m crying.»

An enlightening balance of desperation, joie de vivre and calm acceptance, Franz Schubert’s final piano sonata was written just a few weeks before his death. Ludwig van Beethoven offers similar contrasts in Piano Sonata N˚ 32 – his last one – from the impassioned to the sublime. Star soloist Hélène Grimaud brings you an evening steeped in emotion, in these pianistic swan songs from two great composers who bridged the Classical and Romantic periods.
