From the circles of Hell to the heights of Paradise.
This reimagining of the spiritual journey of Dante explores two versions of the famous Italian writer. His younger self, as portrayed in La Vita Nuova, is full of love for his muse Beatrice, and devastated by her premature death. A middle-aged Dante, as depicted in The Divine Comedy, is guided by the spirit of the Roman poet Virgil through the circles of Hell, traversing Purgatory before reaching Paradise. Composer Pascal Dusapin calls the work an «operatorio», a crossover between an opera and an oratorio (a religious choral work).
Produced by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Opéra national de Paris in co-production with the Opéra national de Paris, the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken and the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg
