Three Te Deums. Three centuries. One stage.
A Te Deum is essentially a musical thank-you note to God – and when you're a king, you go big. Lalande wrote his for Louis XIV at Versailles, all pomp and grandeur. Handel wrote his to celebrate the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, full of trumpets and triumph. Then Arvo Pärt brings things right up to the present with a version for three choirs, prepared piano and tape that strips the whole tradition back to something raw and luminous. Jordi Savall and Le Concert des Nations take you through all three – a genuine voyage through time.Tickets
