Over 130 songs in one year? Blame it on love.

A Liederabend is one of music’s most intimate experiences – just a singer and a pianist, alone on stage, turning poetry into song. And nowhere is that truer than here. In 1840, while fighting a court battle for the right to marry Clara Wieck, Schumann poured everything into song. Over 130 of them, in a single year. Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love) is the crown jewel: 16 settings of Heine’s poetry about love, longing and heartbreak, with Clara’s name secretly woven into the musical fabric. Baritone Andrè Schuen and pianist Julius Drake bring this extraordinary story to life.
