To him, the ultimate goal of music was to «glorify God»

and composing was just another word for praying. In this concert, Philippe Herreweghe invites you to discover Johann Sebastian Bach through three masterpieces written «face to face with God» by the most pious genius of the Baroque era. After two meditations in cantata form, we discover the Missa brevis – or short mass – a musical setting of the Christian liturgy remarkable not only for its musical quality, but also because it reconciles the Catholic and Protestant faiths at a time still haunted by the Wars of Religion which had shaken Europe in the previous century.
