Often regarded as Ernst Lubitsch’s best silent film,
Lady Windermere’s Fan owes as much to the genius of its director as to that of Oscar Wilde, author of the play of the same name from which it was adapted. Retaining the British playwright’s acerbic humour and satire, Lubitsch takes this social comedy about appearances and marriage, whose characters navigate between the domestic sphere and high society, and transposes it to the 1920s. Timothy Brock, at the head of the Luxembourg Philharmonic, has provided the musical accompaniment.Production Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg in collaboration with the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the Philharmonie
