To end winter on a high note,

baritone Peter Mattei invites you on a musical and poetic journey into the heart of the coldest season with Franz Schubert’s famous song cycle Winterreise. Upon reading Wilhelm Müller’s eponymous poems, Schubert recognised himself in the narrator's state of mind: lonely, tired and discouraged. So, he scored them for piano and voice, painting a musical landscape where snow, frost and frozen rivers symbolise mourning and despair. Peter Mattei’s warm, searching voice will be perfect to capture the rich emotions of the evening.
