Thematic afternoon in French
A multifaceted and enigmatic genius… An enviable lifespan (1882–1971), a career that took him from the final decades of the Russian National School through a phase of neoclassical decantation and via jazz to serialism, and sources of inspiration rooted primarily in dance and the sacred. The dances draw on various folk traditions as well as Greek antiquity, and the sacred is both singular and multifaceted, able to take the form of pagan trance, biblical hieraticism, Christian faith, or timeless incantation. And through all these twists and turns, across all the styles and genres he explored, Stravinsky’s «musical imprint» managed to retain its identity. The lecture, illustrated with numerous musical examples and commentary as well as projections and text readings, will be delivered by André Lischke, author notably of Histoire de la musique russe des origines à la Révolution and Guide de l’opéra russe, artistic director of the record label Le Chant du Monde between 1989 and 1997, and a senior lecturer in the Arts and Music Department at the University of Évry from 2001 to 2020.Tickets
