Joana Revez Mendonça is regularly invited to perform with the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, La Monnaie / De Munt, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, the Ataneres Ensemble and Boho Strings. She was an academist at La Monnaie and the Belgian National Orchestra in 2024/25 and has been a member of the Young Belgian Strings since 2023, serving as principal viola since 2024. She has participated in festivals such as the Resonances Academy (Belgium), the International Chamber Music Summer Academy (Germany) and the International Chamber Music Festival in Poitou (France). In 2021, she played with the Orquesta del Encuentro in Spain under Gustavo Dudamel. She completed a master’s degree in viola at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels after bachelor’s degrees in violin with Yuzuko Horigome and viola with Paul de Clerck, and studied with Ulf Schneider in Hannover. She began her musical training at the Lisbon Music Academy with Cristina Almeida, Filipa Poêjo and VÃtor Vieira. A passionate chamber musician, she has collaborated with William Coleman, Frans Helmerson, António Rosado and Pedro Carneiro, and is a founding member and violist of the Nereus Quartet, a Brussels-based piano quartet pursuing a master’s degree in chamber music at the Cologne Academy of Music and Dance with Anthony Spiri, Gerhard Vielhaber and David Quiggle. They participated in the Advanced Chamber Music Course of the Orpheus Institute in Ghent and received scholarships for master classes with distinguished musicians in France and Germany. The quartet has performed in the «Best of NRW» series in 2025 and was a finalist in the Supernova competition in 2023 and 2025. Joana Revez Mendonça won a 2nd Prize at the Prémio Jovens Músicos in 2025 and has been recognised at the Capela and Santa Cecilia competitions; earlier, as a member of the Quarteto Vivace, she reached the semifinals of the Prémio Jovens Músicos in 2017. Her orchestral experience includes the Jovem Orquestra Portuguesa (concertmaster), Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (assistant concertmaster) and Youth Flanders Orchestra, and she has worked with Peter Eötvös, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Jun Märkl and Isabel Rubio. She has also performed with the Fado singers Carlos do Carmo, Gisela João and Carminho. She joined the Luxembourg Philharmonic Academy in January 2026.
