Béla Bartók called string quartets «a test of the composer’s ability».
Nowhere is that truer than in Central Europe, where the quartet tradition runs deep. Joseph Haydn defined it, Belá Bartók reinvented it, and Antonín Dvořák filled it with soaring melodies and Bohemian warmth. Three composers, three distinct voices, all pushing the limits of what four string players can do. Founded at The Juilliard School some 33 years ago, The Brentano Quartet bring their trademark clarity and intensity to this journey from Vienna to Budapest to Prague – a masterclass in the art of the quartet, from the place that perfected it.Tickets
