Leo Strelle grew up in a multilingual family of professional musicians. He performed for the first time at the age of six, and made his solo debut at twelve with Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin, Piano, and Orchestra alongside the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra. He began his training with Savelij Markovich Shalman before going on to study under Sebastian Müller at Chetham’s School of Music, where he also took composition lessons with Jeremy Pike and distinguished himself in the chamber music repertoire, as evidenced by his triumph at the Fiona Ord competition. He continued his artistic development at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in the class of Tanja Becker-Bender, and refined his compositional work with Fredrik Schwenk. His second string trio was premiered with the Strelle Strings in 2022. Leo Strelle has won national and international competitions, and was recently awarded first prizes in the soloist and chamber music categories at the 12th Concorso Internazionale per Giovani Musicisti in Treviso. He performs regularly in Europe and Asia and has appeared at the Elbphilharmonie, the Laeiszhalle, in St. Petersburg, Shanghai, and at the Bristol Music Hall. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as the NMH Symphony Orchestra Oslo and the Abingdon Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire includes concertos by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Henri Vieuxtemps, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Ernst, and Johann Sebastian Bach. His debut album features the F-A-E Sonata and Giuseppe Tartini’s Violin Sonata in G minor. In addition to his activities in the classical field, he has also been involved in interdisciplinary projects. These include the production Der koschere Himmel, in which he combines violin playing with acting, and his cinematic interpretation of Karol Szymanowski’s Myths. He was concertmaster at the Ligeti Festival in Hamburg, where among other works he performed Ligeti’s String Quartet N° 1 with the Strelle Strings. Leo Strelle obtained his bachelor’s degree in violin from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in 2024, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree with Sergey Malov in Switzerland. He performs on a Curt Jung violin with a Dirk Löscher bow, generously made available to him by Peter Hauber. He has been a member of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Academy since January 2026.
