Two composers, a century apart, both drawn to the same idea:

Writing 24 preludes – short pieces that distil a single mood or idea – one in every key. Frédéric Chopin’s are fleeting and poetic, like passing thoughts. Dmitri Shostakovich’s are bold, intricate and each paired with a fugue – where a single theme is passed from voice to voice like a conversation. Together, they’re a kaleidoscope of emotions, from intimate to explosive. Renowned for her clarity and power, winner of the International Frédéric Chopin Competition, Yulianna Avdeeva offers a wide-ranging selection of these preludes – an endurance test, a showcase and an adventure for the ears.
